• The Parenting Coordination Role
  At the heart of our services is Parenting Coordination. This process, endorsed by BCPCRS, involves experienced professionals helping parents manage day-to-day conflicts with a child-focused approach. The Parenting Coordinator is most heavily involved at the beginning of the parents' contract, and will diminish the number of interventions over time as the conflicts are resolved. Parents will be coached on effective communication, effective transitions, addressing complaints, appropriate responses to complaints, making proposals, and adhereeing to protocols that assist them with resolving their issues. If these tools and strategies do not move the decision towards an agreement, either parent can request a mediation process to take place with the support of the Parenting Coordinator. Should the mediation process not result in consensus, the next step is a Determination process for settlement where the Parenting Coordinator acts as an arbitrator to reach a final decision that the parents will be bound by.

  Parenting Coordination is a child-focused, arbitrated, dispute resolution process that assists coparents who are experiencing high levels of conflict and hostility, or other complexities that affect their parenting plan. It is a unique and specialized process intended aid parents who have a persistent history of of frustration that results in an impase when agreeing on parenting decisions. Parenting Coordinators in BC are one of the dispute resolution processes identified in the Family Law Act. It works best when a final court order or written agreement is in place as it is designed to replace frequent appearances in court. We provide tailored solutions to family disputes, reducing child-related conflicts in order to better protect children from the negative impacts that parental conflict can cause.. Our approach incorporates negotiation, mediation, and collaborative problem-solving techniques, all structured within the framework provided by BCPCRS to promote peaceful and constructive family dynamics.

In Nanaimo, Lurline Raposo is our Parenting Coordinator that offers specialized support and understanding the unique challenges faced by local families.
